Be inspired by the story below.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p class=\"s3\" style=\"text-align: center\"><em><strong><span class=\"s2\">MY (ASP) SCHOLARSHIP JOURNEY<\/span><\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n<p class=\"s5\"><em><span class=\"s4\">My name is Emmanuel Nyame from Ghana. I<\/span><span class=\"s4\"> completed<\/span><span class=\"s4\"> my <\/span><span class=\"s4\">bachelor\u2019s<\/span><span class=\"s4\"> degree<\/span><span class=\"s4\"> in <\/span><span class=\"s4\">Food science and Technology at the \u201cKwame Nkrumah University of science and Technology, Ghana<\/span><span class=\"s4\"> where I later served as a Teaching and Research Assistant.<\/span><\/em><\/p>\n<p class=\"s5\"><em><span class=\"s4\">It is an honour and privilege to be awarded the prestigious \u201cAfrica Scholarship Program\u201d to study a <\/span><span class=\"s4\">master\u2019s<\/span><span class=\"s4\"> program in Food Safety at Wageningen University and Research<\/span><span class=\"s4\">, Netherland.<\/span><\/em><\/p>\n<p class=\"s5\"><em><span class=\"s4\">Wageningen University <\/span><span class=\"s4\">and<\/span><span class=\"s4\"> Research <\/span><span class=\"s4\">(WUR) initiated\u00a0The Africa Scholarship Programme (ASP). This programe gives,<\/span><span class=\"s4\">\u00a0<\/span><span class=\"s4\">motivated <\/span><span class=\"s4\">and <\/span><span class=\"s4\">talented <\/span><span class=\"s4\">students from Africa, the opportunity to study <\/span><span class=\"s4\">in\u00a0<\/span><span class=\"s4\">Wageningen U<\/span><span class=\"s4\">niversity<\/span><span class=\"s4\">.<\/span> <\/em><\/p>\n<p class=\"s5\"><strong><em><span class=\"s4\">With this <\/span><span class=\"s4\">fellowship<\/span><span class=\"s4\">, WUR<\/span><span class=\"s4\">\u00a0aims to<\/span><span class=\"s4\"> support capacity building in Africa<\/span><span class=\"s4\">.<\/span><\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<p class=\"s5\"><em><span class=\"s4\">Food Safety, as well as nutrition, is a critical health issue in Ghana. <\/span><span class=\"s4\">In my part of the world where there is prevalence of food insecurity, people tend to consume whatever they lay their hands on, oblivious of the source, safety and nutrient content<\/span><span class=\"s4\">. <\/span><\/em><\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p class=\"s5\"><em><span class=\"s4\">Food security issues in Ghana drives my initiative to broaden my knowledge in Food Safet<\/span><span class=\"s4\">y, a major aspect of food security.<\/span><\/em><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p class=\"s5\"><em><span class=\"s4\">My interest in Food Safety begin after I had internships<\/span><span class=\"s4\"> with <\/span><span class=\"s4\">the <\/span><span class=\"s2\">Food Research Institute<\/span><span class=\"s4\"> and the <\/span><span class=\"s2\">Mycotoxin lab<\/span><span class=\"s2\">oratory <\/span><span class=\"s4\">in Ghana. I was working on \u201c<\/span><span class=\"s2\">peanut and mycotoxin innovation\u201d lab project <\/span><span class=\"s4\">aimed at ensuring minimal levels of aflatoxin<\/span><span class=\"s4\"> in foods.<\/span><\/em><\/p>\n<p class=\"s5\"><span class=\"s4\" style=\"font-style: italic\">After being in the field of Food Science,<\/span><span class=\"s4\" style=\"font-style: italic\">\u00a0I need<\/span><span class=\"s4\" style=\"font-style: italic\">ed<\/span><span class=\"s4\"><i> more practical skills.\u00a0Therefore,<\/i><\/span><span class=\"s4\" style=\"font-style: italic\">\u00a0I \u00a0was looking for a good \u00a0institution ranked high in Food research.<\/span><i>\u00a0<\/i><\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p class=\"s5\"><em>There<span class=\"s4\">\u00a0is no better place to achieve this requisite training than Wageningen University and Research. Which is the best Agricultural and Food Science university in the world.<\/span>\u00a0 <\/em><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p class=\"s5\"><em>As a result, m<span class=\"s4\">y search led me to WUR. Afterwards, the source of funding <\/span><span class=\"s4\">became<\/span><span class=\"s4\"> a problem because education abroad is really expensive. I had no means of funding myself<\/span><span class=\"s4\">.<\/span><span class=\"s4\">\u00a0<\/span><\/em><\/p>\n<p class=\"s5\"><em><span class=\"s4\">Looking for sources of funding on the University\u2019s website \u00a0I got to know of the Africa Scholarship Programme. <\/span><\/em><\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p class=\"s5\"><em><span class=\"s4\">My journey towards<\/span><span class=\"s4\"> the scholarship application<\/span><span class=\"s4\"> only started as a dream<\/span><span class=\"s4\">.<\/span> <\/em><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p class=\"s5\"><em><span class=\"s4\">I took a daring step because the scholarship is targeted at only 5 motivated, talented and excellent students from Africa<\/span><span class=\"s4\">. <\/span><\/em><\/p>\n<p class=\"s5\"><em><span class=\"s4\">After several months of <\/span><span class=\"s4\">prayers, <\/span><span class=\"s4\">research, persistence, writing, sleepless nights<\/span><span class=\"s4\"> and<\/span><span class=\"s4\"> an interview,<\/span><span class=\"s4\"> I deem it a great privilege, I was select<\/span><span class=\"s4\">ed<\/span><span class=\"s4\"> out of the 1500 applicants for the 2019\/2020 <\/span><span class=\"s4\">ASP scholarship.<\/span><\/em><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center\"><a href=\"https:\/\/weblog.wur.eu\/international-students\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/7\/2019\/10\/Webp.net-resizeimage.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\" wp-image-3090 aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/weblog.wur.eu\/international-students\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/7\/2019\/10\/Webp.net-resizeimage-300x199.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"528\" height=\"350\" srcset=\"https:\/\/weblog.wur.eu\/international-students\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/7\/2019\/10\/Webp.net-resizeimage-300x199.jpg 300w, https:\/\/weblog.wur.eu\/international-students\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/7\/2019\/10\/Webp.net-resizeimage.jpg 604w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 528px) 100vw, 528px\" \/><\/a>Yaw (left) and Emmanuel (right).
