There are several nice places to study on campus, as covered in (Find your perfect study spot on campus<\/a>). But sometimes what’s really needed to get in the zone is a change of scenery to the ‘outside’ world. Whether it’s to get that final draft finished or to chill with some friends and do some easy-going work in a cosy cafe to get the creative thoughts going.<\/p>\r\n

This blog is a small reflection on some of the nice places I’ve found to study off-campus in Wageningen. If you’re feeling like trying out a completely new town check out this post<\/a> for some inspiration.<\/p>\r\n

De BBlthk<\/h1>\r\n

If you are a fan of studying in the library on campus but just looking for a small change of scenery then the public library of Wageningen ‘de bblthk’<\/a>\u00a0 might just be the place to go. Complete with creature comforts of any good library- lots of desk spaces, ample charging points a printer and a coffee machine, you’re perfectly set up for a good study session.<\/p>\r\n

The opening hours for the weekend can be found here<\/a>. It is open from 9 am to 5:30 pm during the week apart from Tuesdays and Fridays when it\u2019s open until 8 pm. Another bonus is that you do not have to be a member of De Bblthk to make use of its services. Although if you are a member, some things such as using their computers are offered at a reduced rate.\u00a0<\/p>\r\n

Cafes<\/h1>\r\n

Cafes are my next go-to for studying places. Not all are ‘laptop friendly’ but there are still some great options in Wageningen. I will mention a few and the top reason I like to study there.<\/p>\r\n

    \r\n
  • Hema: Great if you want to get your head down and be tucked away. It also has lots of charging spots.<\/li>\r\n
  • Bagels & Beans: Can treat yourself to a nice lunch! And it is great for people watching. I usually come here when I need to do something a bit more chill and creative. Not if I’ve got a whole essay to write in one day.<\/li>\r\n
  • Columbus: In my opinion the best coffee, and it has a super cosy interior.<\/li>\r\n
  • Brownies & Downies: The best tea selection. Where I go if I have something that really needs to be done, then treat myself to the squidgiest brownie.\u00a0<\/li>\r\n<\/ul>\r\n

    Forest & Rijn<\/h1>\r\n

    Of course, depending on what type of studying you need to do, your options are limited by whether there is a power supply and wi-fi. However, when studying for exams and my notes were already written up I would often take my revision cards to the Forest or the Rijn. Not only does it have the relaxing advantages of being in nature, but I would also take the opportunity to disconnect from the internet to really have no distractions.<\/p>\r\n

    If you are looking for peace and tranquillity though then you should really pick your times. The Rijn in the evening on a nice summer’s day may not necessarily be conductive to studying – surrounded by people relaxing, listening to music and having a beer!<\/p>\r\n
