The stalls are overflowing with fresh fruits and vegetables, organic products, flowers, and local specialities, making it a haven for students looking for affordable, high quality groceries. I still remember my first visit. It was like stepping into a world of colour and freshness. I was instantly drawn to the bright, juicy strawberries, crisp apples, and leafy greens. I filled my bag with a variety of produce, including some fragrant herbs that later elevated my home cooked meals. It was so much cheaper and more flavourful than supermarket produce, and the friendly local farmers were always happy to share tips on how to pick the best produce or keep herbs fresh longer.

Since that day, the Saturday Market has become a weekly ritual. I enjoy going early to avoid the crowds, sipping a fresh cup of local coffee, and taking my time exploring each stall. The market not only provides essentials for a healthy student lifestyle, but also creates a unique atmosphere where you can meet new people, support local businesses, and get inspired by the diversity of fresh ingredients. Whether it is grabbing a crusty loaf of bread, trying out a new type of cheese, or simply soaking up the lively ambiance, the Saturday Market is a must-visit for a great Wageningen international student life experience.

Get Active at De Bongerd Sports Centre

One of my favourite things about student life in Wageningen is getting active at De Bongerd, the university’s sports centre. With over 70 different sports to choose from, everything from yoga and swimming to martial arts and team sports, there is always something new to try. You just need to activate your WUR Card for sports activities, and you are good to go. I love how the facilities are always clean and well-equipped, making it a perfect place to blow off steam after classes or just focus on my health and fitness goals.

For me, I spend a lot of time at the gym in De Bongerd. It has everything I need for strength training and cardio, and it is always a good vibe with other students around. I also recently started playing badminton with a few friends, which has quickly become one of the highlights of my week. It is such a fun way to stay active and connect with people. Whether I am lifting weights or running around the badminton court, I always leave De Bongerd feeling energized and ready for the week ahead. If you are in Wageningen, you have got to check it out!

Discover Nature by Bike

One of the best things about living in Wageningen is just how easy it is to get around by bike. I love riding through the town, surrounded by beautiful greenery and peaceful canals. It is such a relaxing way to explore the area, especially after a busy day of classes. I always find little hidden spots that you can only really discover on two wheels. The quiet paths along the water, the soft rustling of leaves, and the occasional surprise of a heron standing by the canal make every ride feel special.

For me, cycling is not just about getting from one place to another, it is about clearing my mind and taking in the simple beauty of Wageningen. Sometimes I bike to meet up with friends or head to the market, but a lot of times I just go for a ride without a plan, enjoying the peacefulness. If you are new in town or just looking for a break from studying, grab a bike and explore. You will see a side of Wageningen you would not expect.

Explore the International Cuisines in Wageningen City Centre

One of the things I love most about living in Wageningen is how many amazing spots there are to eat and hang out with friends. Whenever I am in the mood for good food and drinks, I have a few favourites that I keep going back to. My personal top picks are Bij Blauw, Onder de Linden, and of course, Mama Bowls.

Bij Blauw is my go-to spot for a relaxed meal with friends. The food is always delicious, and the atmosphere is perfect for catching up. For drinks, I cannot recommend Onder de Linden enough. Their mocktails are some of the best I have ever had, and it is such a cosy place to hang out after a long day. If you are more of a late night person like me, Onder de Linden is a great choice for an evening drink and chill time with friends. And then there is Mama Bowls, my favourite for Korean food. Their bibimbap is amazing, and the whole vibe of the place is really chill. I love going there with friends to enjoy a flavourful meal and just relax. If you are ever in Wageningen and looking for a good place to eat or drink with friends, definitely check out these spots.

Discover Wageningen’s Unique Attractions

Living in Wageningen is not just about the food and student life. The town has some really cool and unique spots that you should definitely check out. One of my favourite places is the Oude Kerk, the old church in the city centre. It is a quiet and peaceful spot that feels like stepping back in time. I love just walking around it or sitting nearby with a coffee, especially when the sun is out.

Another hidden gem is the Old Lady Tree, which is absolutely stunning when it is in bloom. When spring arrives and the blossoms are out, it is the perfect place to take some photos and just enjoy the beauty of nature right in the middle of town. And if you are looking for a quiet green escape, Emmapark is the place to go. It is a bit tucked away, but it is one of the most peaceful spots in Wageningen, with lots of trees and little pathways to explore. I like to take a book there and just relax on the grass for a while. If you are in Wageningen, make sure to check out these unique places.

<a
