In this post I\u2019ve gathered some of the most common questions and shared honest answers based on my own experience here at WUR. I hope it helps you feel a bit more at ease and a bit more at home even before you arrive.<\/p>\n<h3 data-start=\"517\" data-end=\"582\"><strong data-start=\"521\" data-end=\"582\">Q1: Housing \u2013 What are the housing options in Wageningen?<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p data-start=\"584\" data-end=\"752\">The most frequently asked question during the Instagram Q&amp;A session was about housing. Housing in Wageningen is mostly organized through <strong data-start=\"634\" data-end=\"672\"><a class=\"\" href=\"https:\/\/www.room.nl\/en\/\" target=\"_new\" rel=\"noopener\" data-start=\"636\" data-end=\"670\">Idealis<\/a><\/strong> , the main student housing provider. They offer several types of accommodation:<\/p>\n<ul data-start=\"754\" data-end=\"1255\">\n<li data-start=\"754\" data-end=\"902\">\n<p data-start=\"756\" data-end=\"902\">\ud83c\udfe2 <strong data-start=\"759\" data-end=\"791\">Dorms with shared facilities<\/strong>: You get your own room, but share the kitchen, bathroom, and sometimes even a living room with other students.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li data-start=\"903\" data-end=\"1057\">\n<p data-start=\"905\" data-end=\"1057\">\ud83d\udebf <strong data-start=\"908\" data-end=\"932\">Self-contained rooms<\/strong>: These are private rooms with your own bathroom and kitchen \u2013 a bit more expensive, but worth it if you prefer more privacy.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li data-start=\"1058\" data-end=\"1255\">\n<p data-start=\"1060\" data-end=\"1255\">\ud83c\udf33 <strong data-start=\"1063\" data-end=\"1099\">Shared houses with outdoor areas<\/strong>: For example, <strong data-start=\"1114\" data-end=\"1129\">Droevendaal<\/strong> is quite popular \u2013 a unique community of wooden houses where you share everything and enjoy a greener, more social lifestyle.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p style=\"text-align: center\"><a href=\"https:\/\/weblog.wur.eu\/international-students\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/7\/2025\/06\/WhatsApp-Image-2025-04-17-at-00.07.06.jpeg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-6635 \" src=\"https:\/\/weblog.wur.eu\/international-students\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/7\/2025\/06\/WhatsApp-Image-2025-04-17-at-00.07.06-1024x768.jpeg\" alt=\"\" width=\"800\" height=\"600\" srcset=\"https:\/\/weblog.wur.eu\/international-students\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/7\/2025\/06\/WhatsApp-Image-2025-04-17-at-00.07.06-1024x768.jpeg 1024w, https:\/\/weblog.wur.eu\/international-students\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/7\/2025\/06\/WhatsApp-Image-2025-04-17-at-00.07.06-300x225.jpeg 300w, https:\/\/weblog.wur.eu\/international-students\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/7\/2025\/06\/WhatsApp-Image-2025-04-17-at-00.07.06-768x576.jpeg 768w, https:\/\/weblog.wur.eu\/international-students\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/7\/2025\/06\/WhatsApp-Image-2025-04-17-at-00.07.06-150x113.jpeg 150w, https:\/\/weblog.wur.eu\/international-students\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/7\/2025\/06\/WhatsApp-Image-2025-04-17-at-00.07.06.jpeg 1200w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 800px) 100vw, 800px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1257\" data-end=\"1496\"><strong data-start=\"94\" data-end=\"114\">Where do I live?<\/strong> I live in a <strong data-start=\"127\" data-end=\"158\">self-contained Idealis room<\/strong> close to the campus. That means I have my <strong data-start=\"197\" data-end=\"233\" data-is-only-node=\"\">own private bathroom and kitchen<\/strong>, which gives me a bit more privacy and flexibility. It\u2019s really convenient, especially when I have a busy schedule and it\u2019s still easy to meet other students in the building or through student events.<\/p>\n<h3 data-start=\"1503\" data-end=\"1562\"><strong data-start=\"1507\" data-end=\"1562\">Q2: Food at WUR \u2013 What food is available on campus?<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p data-start=\"1564\" data-end=\"1614\">There\u2019s no shortage of food options around campus:<\/p>\n<ul data-start=\"1616\" data-end=\"1939\">\n<li data-start=\"1616\" data-end=\"1733\">\n<p data-start=\"1618\" data-end=\"1733\">\ud83e\udd6a Each building has its <strong data-start=\"1643\" data-end=\"1660\">own cafeteria<\/strong>, serving sandwiches, snacks, and warm meals \u2013 perfect for a quick lunch.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li data-start=\"1734\" data-end=\"1822\">\n<p data-start=\"1736\" data-end=\"1822\">\u2615 You\u2019ll also find <strong data-start=\"1755\" data-end=\"1798\">vending machines and hot drink stations<\/strong> pretty much everywhere.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li data-start=\"1823\" data-end=\"1939\">\n<p data-start=\"1825\" data-end=\"1939\">\ud83c\udf71 <strong data-start=\"1828\" data-end=\"1842\">Microwaves<\/strong> are available in all buildings \u2013 so you can always bring your own food from home and heat it up!<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p data-start=\"1941\" data-end=\"2151\">I usually bring my own lunch and heat it up, it\u2019s a budget-friendly option, and the microwaves are super easy to use. On days when I forget, I grab a warm meal at Aurora or a sandwich from the Forum cafeteria.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center\" data-start=\"1941\" data-end=\"2151\"><a href=\"https:\/\/weblog.wur.eu\/international-students\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/7\/2025\/06\/resized_image.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-6636 \" src=\"https:\/\/weblog.wur.eu\/international-students\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/7\/2025\/06\/resized_image-1024x709.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"866\" height=\"600\" srcset=\"https:\/\/weblog.wur.eu\/international-students\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/7\/2025\/06\/resized_image-1024x709.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/weblog.wur.eu\/international-students\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/7\/2025\/06\/resized_image-300x208.jpg 300w, https:\/\/weblog.wur.eu\/international-students\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/7\/2025\/06\/resized_image-768x531.jpg 768w, https:\/\/weblog.wur.eu\/international-students\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/7\/2025\/06\/resized_image-150x104.jpg 150w, https:\/\/weblog.wur.eu\/international-students\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/7\/2025\/06\/resized_image.jpg 1305w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 866px) 100vw, 866px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<h3 data-start=\"2158\" data-end=\"2272\"><strong data-start=\"2162\" data-end=\"2272\">Q3: Groceries \u2013 What are the best places to buy groceries and what is the average weekly groceries budget?<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p data-start=\"2274\" data-end=\"2506\">Wageningen has several supermarkets, with <strong data-start=\"2316\" data-end=\"2325\">Jumbo<\/strong> being the most popular (and just a short walk from campus!). Other options include Albert Heijn, Lidl, and Plus. There\u2019s also an <strong data-start=\"2455\" data-end=\"2473\">organic market<\/strong> on Wednesdays and Saturdays in the city center.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"2508\" data-end=\"2732\">From my own experience, I spend <strong data-start=\"2540\" data-end=\"2567\">around \u20ac35\u2013\u20ac45 per week<\/strong> on groceries. It depends a bit on whether I cook big meals with friends or stick to simple student dishes. BUT there are <strong data-start=\"2928\" data-end=\"2952\">subscription options<\/strong> that give discounts or allow free travel on certain days \u2013 great if you want to explore the rest of the Netherlands!<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"3071\" data-end=\"3263\">That said, you don\u2019t really need to use public transport in Wageningen itself \u2013 <strong data-start=\"3144\" data-end=\"3199\">everything is reachable by bike in under 15 minutes<\/strong> \ud83d\udeb2. Some courses require books, while others just use slides and articles.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"3699\" data-end=\"3935\">From my experience, I\u2019ve only had to buy a couple of textbooks.
