On the 7th and 8th November, Wageningen University & Research welcomed prospective bachelors students and their parents to its Bachelor’s Open Day! The campus atmosphere was lively, filled with guided tours, programme presentations and conversations with staff and current students. Many visitors had questions about housing, associations and settling into student life. Below are the key questions that appeared most often, along with clear answers<\/p>\n

Is it possible to get housing outside Wageningen if I register via ROOM.nl or Idealis?<\/strong>
Yes. Idealis is the main student housing provider in Wageningen, but ROOM.nl is used in several Dutch student cities. This means you can search for housing in nearby towns such as Ede, Bennekom, Renkum or Veenendaal. Students often choose these locations when Wageningen rooms fill up quickly or when they prefer a quieter environment.<\/p>\n

Can I still apply for ROOM.nl if I have only a conditional admission letter?<\/strong>
You can, though it involves some uncertainty. Once you register on ROOM.nl, your registration time starts building up, and this time becomes important later in the housing selection process. International students also benefit from distance priority. If you are confident that you can meet the admission requirements of WUR, registering early may help you secure a room sooner. If you are unsure, it is still possible to wait, but it may reduce your chances<\/p>\n

How easy is it to join student or study associations at WUR?<\/strong>
It is very accessible. Most associations welcome new members throughout the year. Start by identifying your interests such as sports, culture, entrepreneurship, study related groups or social communities. Follow the associations online, visit their introduction activities and look out for membership openings. How can I receive rent subsidy in the Netherlands?<\/strong>
Rent subsidy, known as huurtoeslag, may be available depending on your income, age, rent price and the type of accommodation. You can check all requirements on the official Dutch tax authority website after you receive your rental contract. Students who meet the criteria can apply with their DigiD.
