On the 21st of March (Saturday), the Bachelor’s Open Day took place for yet another year, bringing many opportunities and new experiences. If you couldn’t manage visiting, don’t worry! This blog is specifically for those abroad, however, still curious about how the day went.<\/p>\n
The Open Day started with a presentation about essential information<\/strong> for international <\/em>students. The Bachelor’s Programmes (Dutch<\/a> and English<\/a>-taught) had their own presentations<\/strong> as well! They shared more detailed insights into the courses, programme structure and academic experience. Afterwards, each programme hosted an Information Stand<\/strong> where you could ask additional questions. Of course, I couldn’t miss visiting my own programme’s stand – Food Technology<\/strong><\/a>! My dear friend Nadin was there, explaining the science behind every bite! She was guiding prospective students through the principles of plant-based and gluten-free products and their importance in food. Did you know you can have gelatine-free candy and how it differs from regular ones? Questions don’t stop popping up throughout the day, and as expected, the morning information presentation might not be enough. That is why there was an Information Market<\/strong> during the whole day! Being on foot all day, going from stand to stand between different buildings, even, can be challenging, right? Well, that is no longer the case when you have (healthy) snacks and drinks<\/strong> at multiple locations! And for those who wanted to feel even more energised, there was a DJ<\/strong> stand in front of Forum, playing nice beats.\ud83d\ude04<\/p>\n Despite WUR’s campus being all in one place, it is still quite spacious. Therefore, being familiar with the campus<\/strong> and the city<\/strong> is a great skill to have. As a current student, I can share that it might take some time at first, haha. \nMadeline and I were pleased to host this year! We discussed what it’s like to study in Wageningen, sharing more about the campus<\/a> <\/strong>and its buildings<\/a>.<\/strong> The Bachelor’s Programmes that WUR offers were shown, alongside all necessary details about application<\/a><\/strong>, admission<\/strong> and academic year structure<\/a><\/strong>. A connection to this was then made with the Master Programmes that students can follow later on.
\nWe couldn’t miss the housing<\/a><\/strong>! Understandably, this is a hot topic among prospective students, which is why we shared some tips and things to keep in mind.
\nLastly, university life is not only about studying and academics. At Wageningen University, there are countless ways to connect with other students or develop your interests. At the presentation, we went over the associations<\/a><\/strong> in WUR, the sports<\/a> <\/strong>opportunities, student challenges<\/a><\/strong> and many others.<\/p>\n<\/a><\/p>\nProgramme Presentations & Stands<\/h2>\n
\nBut that’s not all! To give you a real feel for what each study is like, there were hands-on experiments and interactive projects<\/strong> showcasing what you’ll study.<\/p>\n
\nTo give you a little hint, all of the above have textural differences (among other properties) compared to the traditional products. To make this even more interesting, there was an actual texture analyser<\/strong> on site that you could try yourself and see the variation.<\/p>\n<\/a><\/a><\/p>\nInformation Market & Setting Up the Mood<\/h2>\n
\nThere were multiple locations for different topics. First things first – admission, application, and preparation for international student life. You could ask everything about those, as well as figure out the housing in Wageningen directly from the Idealis<\/a>‘s stand. After the basics have been figured out, you could move to the information spots for student life, sports, and extracurricular development.<\/p>\n<\/a><\/p>\nKnowing Your Way Around<\/h2>\n
\nLuckily, during the Open Day, you could have a special guide<\/strong> to show you around! There were multiple Campus Tours<\/strong>, where visitors got to see WUR’s campus and its facilities, as well as learn some fun facts about it (like that there are over 110 species of apple trees on campus!).
\nAlso, my beloved tractor-campus-tour<\/strong> was here this year too! Yes, you heard it right – tractor-tour – a tractor with two carts on the back driving you around campus. Quite fun, right? \ud83d\ude09<\/p>\n
