10 Things That Changed in Me During My Master’s at Wageningen University<\/h1>\n

When I first arrived in Wageningen, I thought my master’s would simply prepare me for a career. Looking back now, I realise Wageningen University changed me<\/strong> in ways I never expected. Beyond lectures and internships, it shaped my habits, mindset, and the way I see the world.<\/p>\n

Here are ten ways I’ve grown during my time at Wageningen University.<\/p>\n

1. I Started Living by My Calendar<\/h2>\n

I used to rely on memory and last-minute planning. Now, my colourful calendar is one of my biggest motivators. Planning my week helps me stay organised and gives me something to look forward to. I also learned that productivity isn’t about filling every hour with work, but it’s about scheduling time to rest as well.<\/p>\n

2. I Began Choosing Intentional Experiences<\/h2>\n

\"Corridor<\/a><\/p>\n

I no longer say yes to every last-minute invitation. Instead, I give value to activities I’ve planned in advance. Whether it’s meeting friends, going for a walk, or setting aside time for myself, I’ve learned that making intentional choices helps me enjoy life much more.<\/p>\n

3. I Learned to Slow Down and Appreciate Nature<\/h2>\n

Before moving to the Netherlands, I rarely stopped to appreciate my surroundings. Now, I enjoy evening walks, sunsets, peaceful canals, parks, and the beautiful changing seasons. Wageningen taught me that sometimes the best way to recharge is simply by spending time outdoors<\/a>.<\/p>\n

4. I Became More Comfortable Meeting New People<\/h2>\n

\"\"<\/a><\/p>\n

As an international student, I stepped outside my comfort zone countless times. I joined student organisations<\/a>, attended events, and met people from all over the world. Every conversation taught me something new, and many of those strangers became lifelong friends.<\/p>\n

5. I Became Financially Independent<\/h2>\n

Living abroad taught me how to budget wisely. I became more aware of the difference between needs and wants. Instead of spending impulsively, I learned to prioritise experiences like travelling and making memories.<\/p>\n

6. I Fell in Love with Second-Hand Living<\/h2>\n

\"\"<\/a><\/p>\n

One of the biggest lifestyle changes I’ve embraced is buying second-hand<\/a>. Most of my furniture and household items came from thrift stores or were given away for free by other students. Not only did this save money, but it also introduced me to a more sustainable way of living.<\/p>\n

7. I Started Wanting Less and Appreciating More<\/h2>\n

Over time, I found myself becoming less interested in material possessions. Instead, I began valuing shared meals, meaningful conversations, weekend<\/a> adventures, and simple evenings with friends. Some of my happiest memories didn’t cost anything at all.<\/p>\n

8. I Learned That Rest Is Productive<\/h2>\n

\"\"<\/a><\/p>\n

There was a time when I believed being busy meant being productive. My master’s taught me otherwise. Taking breaks, reading, walking, and enjoying weekends helped me return to my work with more energy and focus.<\/p>\n

9. I Redefined Success<\/h2>\n

At the beginning of my master’s, success meant good grades. Today, it means so much more. It means building meaningful friendships, becoming more confident, overcoming challenges, finding balance, and growing into a better version of myself.<\/p>\n

10. I Started Living More Sustainably<\/h2>\n

\"\"<\/a><\/p>\n

Living in Wageningen naturally encouraged a more sustainable lifestyle<\/a>. Cycling became my main mode of transport. I reduced waste, carried reusable bottles, shopped locally whenever possible, and became more conscious of my environmental impact. These habits have become part of who I am.<\/p>\n

Looking Back<\/h2>\n

When I arrived in Wageningen, I came to earn a master’s degree. As I prepare to leave, I realise I’m taking home much more than a diploma. I’m leaving with new habits, lifelong friendships, greater confidence, and a completely different perspective on life.<\/p>\n

Looking back, these changes may seem small on their own. Together, they’ve shaped the person I’ve become, and for that, I’ll always be grateful.<\/p>\n
