The exhibition marks the official opening of the WUR Circular Fashion Lab. The driving force behind this is Kim Poldner, who sees circularity as a challenge to develop new fashion systems.

Better recycling

Wageningen is also working on improving recycling. For example, a shirt made from pure cotton can be used to create a new shirt, but only if new cotton fibres are added to the virgin cotton. Given how eco-unfriendly cotton cultivation is, Wageningen researchers are exploring whether other, less environmentally taxing fibres can be used, such as flax or hemp.

Policies

The Netherlands wants to be completely circular by 2050. This ambition was documented in 2015 in the Raw materials agreement (in Dutch). The textile sector is also included in the Consumer goods transition agenda (in Dutch).
