Christiaan H. Bolck MSc is currently working as programme manager biobased materials within the applied research institute Wageningen Food and Biobased Research. Wageningen Food and Biobased Research is part of Wageningen University and Research. Christiaan has over 20 years of experience in product and market development regarding materials and products from biobased resources. He is currently responsible for the research and development activities at Wageningen UR in the field of biobased materials, such as bioplastics, paper, pulp, and building materials. He also is director of the Biobased Performance Materials research programme and as such coordinating the Biobased Materials R&D activities within the Dutch topsectors. In addition, he is a member of the “Expert group Biobased Products” of the European commission (since 2008), Advisory Board lectorate polymer technology at the Windesheim university of applied sciences (since 2008), (former) member of the advisory committee on (green) taxation of packaging waste (since 2008), Consultant Biopolymers at the Dutch Polymer Institute value centre (since 2007), and Consultant “governmental policy on the biobased economy” for the Dutch ministry of Economic Affairs (since 2004).
In 2011, the ad hoc advisory committee for biobased products appointed by the European Commission formulated 15 main recommendations to stimulate the market development of biobased products. Four years later, the EU asked the expert group for biobased products to carry out an assessment of which actions had been taken based on these recommendations.
