Prof. dr. Bas Arts (1961) is Chair of the Forest and Nature Conservation Policy group at Wageningen University, the Netherlands, since 2006. He holds an MSC in Biology (Major: Forest Ecology, 1987) and a PhD in Public Administration and the Policy Sciences (Topic: international negotiations on biodiversity, forests and climate change, 1998). His main research interests are in the fields of international environmental governance, local natural resource management and their interconnections (‘global-local nexus’). His work includes academic research, interdisciplinary studies, scenario development with stakeholders and policy advice. Arts (co)produced over 150 academic publications, including journal papers, books, chapters, edited volumes, and research reports.
