Imke de Boer · Professor of Animal Production Systems

Imke de Boer obtained a doctorate in animal science at Wageningen University & Research. She became Professor of Animal Production Systems in 2011. “I have been studying food production for more than thirty years; it takes time to learn how the components and connections of the complex food system work,” she says. De Boer worked on a dairy farm from the age of twelve and that is where her interest in animal farming was born. “I still visit the farm for a day every year to help out and keep in touch with the reality of working practice. In my work I am committed to preserving this beautiful earth for future generations. Healthy food is the foundation of our existence, and for this we depend on a healthy planet. It is important that people know where their food comes from and how it contributes to their own health and that of the earth and its animals.”
