Researcher Food Informatics at Wageningen University & Research
The power of innovative technology to make positive changes in everyday life is the keystone of my work. As such, I have spent my career working in applied research institutes, on projects ranging from virtual avatars to make television accessible to deaf people, to personalised food advice that will help people make healthier choices. I have the technical background and analytical ability to quickly become familiar with new areas of technology, and the problem-solving skills to see how these can be put to good practical use. My current work in Food Informatics is on the interface between IT technology and domain experts, such as nutritionists, economists and supply-chain experts. This has led to an increasing interest in how different disciplines can work together, understand each other, and benefit from each other's knowledge. Linked science is the technological key to supporting this process. Research also involves a great deal of creativity, and particularly in multi-disciplinary teams, the challenge is to channel this creativity. I believe that my natural inclination for planning provides the necessary structure to turn creativity into concrete results.
Throughout my career in the world of applied research, I have always worked at the interface of various disciplines.
