Where to get Dutch news in English?
Now that you have spent some time in the Netherlands and are getting acquainted with the culture and the language, you probably have also noticed that even though it is easy to communicate in English with almost everyone, when it comes to reading the news, everything is in Dutch.
In current times, with just a click on our phones or our computers, we can get access to hundreds of stories happening around the world. And of course, we do not want to miss any of this “breaking news” because we don’t speak Dutch.
For that reason, we have made a list of useful Dutch news English channels and websites where you can stay updated about all current affairs.
- DutchNews.nl: this one is my personal favourite. I am addicted to reading the news about my country and the country where I live in so I have my “go-to” news site. This website is pretty straightforward. You have options to choose between Corona news, Business, Society, Sport, Education, Health, International News, and Europe news.
- NL Times: is another publisher of Dutch news in English that posts stories every working day. However, during the weekends they have limited coverage.
- I am expat: as an expat living in the Netherlands, you might be confronted with a lot of questions about your residence permit, housing, job opportunities, etc. So, this website is very useful because besides posting the news in English, it also offers you articles on topics such as how to understand your taxes, how to choose a good cellphone company and all kinds of questions about life in the country of bicycles.
- EuroNews: this is a French-based news network with a lot of journalists from different nationalities so you are ensured to get around-the-clock news from Europe and the rest of the world.
- Expatica: another very nice expat guide that has news about the Netherlands together with information about Education, Finance, Healthcare, and Lifestyle.
I hope you explore these websites and find the one that works better for you to keep you up to date on what is happening in the Netherlands.
And as an extra tip, do not forget that a good way to learn your target language is to immerse yourself into it and a great way to do it is trying to read the news in Dutch. Do not worry too much about understanding everything because after all, the jargon and lingo used in the news it is a bit challenging for a new learner but it can teach you a lot of new words!
