From November 260 student from 70 universities in 19 countries worked hard to develop an inclusive design for Washington D.C.’s East Capitol Urban Farm. All on top of their regular study programmes. Last week was the grand finals of this Urban Greenhouse Challenge. LettUs Design won the grand finals and get 10.000 euro for their modular and inclusive urban farming design.

From Wageningen University & Research the best team were the AMS Caterpillars who won the local residents award. Congrats to all winners!

What is the Urban Greenhouse Challenge?

The Urban Greenhouse Challenge is a student competition for students from universities and universities of applied sciences worldwide. Participants get access to coaches from the business world and academia who can help develop their ideas.

This year it challenged students to develop an urban farm concept that ensures year-round sustainable and affordable food production but also generates income for the local residents of Ward 7, a low-income neighbourhood in Washington DC, USA.
