Wageningen After Dark: Fun Evening Activities Without Alcohol

By Zlatoslava

Days are starting to get longer, but not quite long enough yet. The same goes for the weather warming up. So, if you’re impatient with hands itching to go out in the evening after you are done with classes, here are some ideas on how you can spend those couple of hours and enjoy your day to the fullest!

(Psssst, I also need to mention: we’ve talked a lot about student associations and bars before. However, this blog is about the juice and water lovers. Or simply put – the activities highlighted are not necessarily involving alcohol, because having a great time doesn’t mean having to drink, right?:D)

For the Hungry

First things first – the food.

Strolling around the centre and the church is great for finding restaurants to dine in. However, if you’re looking for something new or a different experience, I recommend Onder de Linden and De Blaauwe Kamer. Onder de Linden has a beautiful outside place with small, pretty lights and an outstanding interior, which makes it worth the visit and great to gather with friends. De Blaauwe Kamer is another extraordinary place. It is in the middle of nature, and with its beautiful views and arcade floor, it offers an experience more than just eating.

Who’s down for Boba? If you’re craving for something lighter, boba or bubble tea is popular amongst the students. Even more, when there is a bubble tea shop on campus. Specialtea is my favourite place for those drinks, and even bringing friends from other cities can confirm it is reaaally good. The environment is nice and cosy, with calming music playing. Did you know about this place? Give it a try!

Gather Together – Cinema, Board Games and More

Wageningen might be a small city, but it has multiple movie theatres! Looking for a chill night, watching something and snacking, while sitting on comfortable fauteuils, swing by Heerenstraat Theater, Movie W or Visum Mundi.

If you are a board game geek, Wageningen once again has the perfect fit for you – join the Wageningen Board Gamers! Board and card game nights are organised in the evenings or late afternoons, where people meet and make new friends, sharing a common interest.

Thuis Wageningen is a “public living room.” It’s an open community-run space welcoming everyone, where you can enjoy hot tea while chatting with people, study, join the kitting cafe, and much more. Board game gatherings are also held there sometimes!

Pool Night!

Billiards is always fun, and I was so happy to find out there are pool tables in Wageningen. Poolvereniging Infinity is a place I visit from time to time with friends when craving a competitive but playful night. A tip from me: mention in the beginning that you are a student and ask for a discount (I hope it is still valid). 😉

Ready to be Active?

If you want to switch it up and get moving, WUR’s Sports Centre de Bongerd is open until late! You can always visit the track area, get a ball from the front desk with your WUR card and play something with friends.  There are also table tennis tables and a basketball court, which you can also use.

From vibrant flavours and cosy vibes to fun activity nights, I hope you managed to find something for you! Which one is your favourite deserving to go into the to-do list?

See you around,
