“Picture speaks thousand words”: Captured moments and places in Wageningen during my first year

By Siti Widyastuti Noor

Hi! I am an Indonesian student at Wageningen University & Research, pursuing my Master's degree in International Development with a specialization in Politics and Governance of Development. I really enjoy living in Wageningen and I will share my experience of studying here, I hope every reader will enjoy my posts

As a new student, everything in my surrounding seems new. The buildings, the cycling experience, eating new foods…..Well, I am sure I can make this list longer.

I tried to take photos of some moments, especially as a new student. Sometimes, I posted my photos on Instagram and other social media. But, most of the times I just took some photos and keep them on my phone.

In this post, I want to share with you some beautiful places and the moments I captured during my first year in Wageningen.

Campus Building

The first photo was taken at Leeuwenborch building, and the other one was taken when I stood between Orion and Forum building. I go to the campus almost every day, but there were times when I could not resist to take out my phone to capture these buildings.

Arboretum Belmonte

During the spring, I went to the Arboretum and there were beautiful flowers!

Seasonal change

As someone coming from tropical countries where I only have hot and hot and rain, I really love to capture the moment in every season. This photo was taken during the snowy days in front of Forum building

Food

After finishing my first year, I realized that my cooking skill is increasing. I also tasted foods from many countries during dinner time with other international students (Picture 1). I usually cook for my own meal. Especially, during several celebrations, I always cook with my Indonesian friends. Eating foods from our own country could become medicine for our homesickness. Picture 2 was the food we cooked and we had during the Eid Fitri Celebration with my Indonesian friends.

These are some photos I took during my time as first-year students. Do you have suggestions of moments and places in Wageningen? Feel free to share it in the comment section.
